➤ First-time use of an external hard drive on a Mac – cannot access data. How to fix?
The drive comes formatted as NTFS, which is read-only on Mac. Reformat it to exFAT to use on both Mac and Windows.
Steps:
Connect the drive to your Mac.
Open Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select the drive and click Erase.
Choose exFAT as the format and name the drive.
Click Erase to confirm.
Note: Formatting deletes all data. Backup important files first.
